Behind the Scenes of Publishing a Translated Book: What Most Readers Never See

When people pick up a translated book, they usually focus on the author’s name on the cover. Occasionally, they notice the translator as well. What most readers never think about is the long journey that takes place before that book ever reaches a shelf, an online store, or a reader’s hands. Having worked on translated books, I have learned that publishing one is far more complicated than many people imagine. It is not simply a matter of converting words from one language into another. Every translated book involves contracts, licensing agreements, editorial decisions, design adjustments, production planning, and countless conversations between people who may live on opposite sides of the world.
