When people hear the phrase “translation publishing,” they often imagine someone sitting at a desk converting words from one language into another. That is exactly what I thought before I became involved in the publishing world. I assumed success depended primarily on language skills. If a translator was fluent enough and accurate enough, the rest would naturally fall into place. After working on translation publishing projects, I discovered that translation itself is only a small part of the process. In reality, translation publishing is a combination of publishing, marketing, business development, cultural adaptation, and long-term strategic thinking.
